dear jessica,

it gets lonely here on the prairie... papa left to harvest corn and still hasn't come back. me, mama, and sarah are all real worried that he done went and got savaged by them damn ground hogs. is that what you call them over there in virginia? tonight was bath night in our dug-out. mom boiled the water too hot and it killed baby thomas on the spot. so... instead of killing mama's prize chicken, we had thomas and barbeque sauce. it was mighty tasty. i think jody has caught the whooping cough and mama's yellin at me to heat her some milk. i can't wait til next week's bath... my ass crack itches somethin' fierce.
